The journey begins

This is the beginning, the Alpha if you will, of my blogging journey. Thanks for being here!

So, what has brought me to this pivotal point in my life? And what do I hope to achieve by it?

The_Journey_ Begins-Louise_O'Reilly_Blog_BloggerHonestly, (while running the risk of sounding like Martin Luther King Jr.) I have a dream… well, I had a dream. It was a reoccurring dream that started around 5 years ago. It was night and there was a campfire with painted Aboriginal men. It seemed to be some kind of ceremnony.  My own Aboriginal ancestors were there. They gifted me a wooden shield and conch shell horn. For three years I kept having this same dream.

By chance, I attended a self-development retreat in 2016 (hosted by Ming Johanson). One of the retreat activities was a guided meditation lead by Perth Sharman, Catherine Fewings. During this meditation, I was taken back to my dream where it unravelled into deeper meanings.

It was a life-changing experience which has shifted me in the new direction I am in today. Something I am very grateful for.

I was gifted a wooden shield and a conch shell horn. They both hold mammoth symbolic responsibility and importance to me. I graciously accepted both the shield and the conch. Since then, I have been working towards fulfilling those responsibilities. (knowing this, take a quick look at my logo *wink* *wink* ).

One of the many ways I can honour those responsibilities is by writing. Two years on and I now have quite a few written pieces. Facebook worked well as a platform to share while I was running my business, however, I now want to step it up a gear. I’ll still be operating my business but I am also putting a serious focus on my writing too.

Why? Because I am a complex, multi-talented, intelligent woman who can be a mum, a wife, a business owner and still follow my passion, feed my soul and be happy.

I’ve taken this important step as it aligns with who I truly am. I, like all people, deserve to be happy and feel completely comfortable being me and this is one of the ways I feel like me.  I also want my children to learn that everyone is here for a reason. If they follow their heart, they will find their purpose as well as their happiness.

The decision to follow my heart into blogging came about in the discovery of my enjoyment in writing. Thanks to very long Facebook posts. It turns out I really like it (and it’s a bonus that others seem to like my style too. Woohoo)!

I write about all sorts of thing. Things that are important to me, that inspire me and things that make me screw up my face and ask “Why?”. I write what I am passionate about, that spark a fire in me (sometimes a nice cosy fire, other times a fierce raging fire).

My Focus areas are:

  • Human rights (particularly around Aboriginal affairs and child protection)

  • Empowerment of children, youth and women

  • The path to reconciliation in Australia

  • Equality for all including women’s rights, and,

  • The connectivity we all have to each other and the world we live in.

So why write? It’s just words after all.

I chose to write because words and language are extremely powerful. They have the power turn frowns upside-down 🙂 . They can ignite emotions. They can bring people together. They can change laws, social cultures, perspectives, self-beliefs and so much more.

Words have the power to make the smallest voice heard, to share an inspirational story, show our vulnerabilities and to connect us all. Through words, together we can laugh, cry and love. Words can bring awareness, evoke new thoughts and ideas and start important conversations.

But most of all, it has the power to change the world. I like most parents, want to leave my children with a better world than the one I birthed into.

I thank you for being here and I hope you join me on this wonderful journey.

Til next time.

Stay true to the you in your heart.
